Passive voice in the simple past tense is formed by the auxiliary verb was / were and past participle. Subject to the passive voice to the active voice is the object was for a single subject, while were on the subject plural. The agent in the passive voice is subject to the active voice.
Active Voice : S + verb-2 + direct object ==>> Passive Voice : S (direct object) + was/were + past participle +/- by … (agent)
The above formula applies to transitive verb. What Intransitive verb? Sentences with Intransitive verbs may be pacified if it has a propositional phrase (see: Passive Voice on Intransitive Verb). Subject to the passive voice is the object of the preposition in the active voice.
Active Voice : S + verb-2int + preposition + object of preposition ==>> Passive Voice : S (object of preposition) + was/were + past participle + preposition +/- by … (agent)
Example :
Active Voice :
Someone left the letter when he was away from his desk.
(Seseorang meninggalkan surat tersebut ketika dia jauh dari mejanya.)
(Seseorang meninggalkan surat tersebut ketika dia jauh dari mejanya.)
Passive Voice :
The letter was left when he was away from his desk.
(Surat tersebut ditinggalkan ketika dia jauhd ari mejanya.)
(Surat tersebut ditinggalkan ketika dia jauhd ari mejanya.)
